Celebrating a birthday during lockdown is becoming quite the norm.

As a family we have celebrated 4 birthdays and whilst, and although at first it made us feel miserable, once we got over the disappointment, it actually encouraged us all to get quite creative and they have turned out great. Here are my ideas to help you – or someone close to you – have the best birthday regardless of what stage of lockdown we find ourselves in.

Throw a virtual party

Everyone is pro when it comes to using Zoom and House Party now, but I propose an extra special video call. Throw yourself a virtual birthday party, think of a theme, and have fun making an invite to send around to your friends. Encourage them to style their background to fit the party vibe and give them a specific dress code. Curate a playlist of your favourite party tunes, play it through the speakers and get dancing. If you are planning for someone else, organise in secret, suggest your usual type of catch up and surprise them. You could even borrow ideas from hen do’s & baby showers and organise a quiz, themed specifically around them for everyone.

Send a personalised gift

Now we all have more time to browse the internet, selecting a gift and getting it delivered straight to their door has never been easier or more appropriate. It’s even better if it’s a personalised gift, plus, you can personalise just about anything these days; jewellery, clothes…even trainers!

Use a local supplier

Now more than ever we should be supporting local. I was surprised until I looked, just how many suppliers could help our lockdown needs. From afternoon teas and birthday cakes to full on lunch spreads and posh picnics shopping local helps everyone out at this time and can make a birthday that little bit more special.

Lockdown birthdays may not be the birthday plans that everyone had for this year, but they will certainly be one to remember.
